Ukrainian Court Convicts Local Deputy for Failing to Declare $110,000 in Assets
Verdict Reached in Deputy's Case
According to Главком: A court has found a deputy of the Nadlatska village council in the Kirovohrad region guilty of concealing assets worth 4.4 million hryvnias in his official declaration. As part of the sentence, he must complete 150 hours of community service. This case is part of Ukraine's ongoing anti-corruption efforts, which have intensified since the 2014 revolution.
The defendant was convicted of withholding information about land and real estate in his declaration. The court also imposed an additional penalty, banning him from holding any local government positions for one year. The verdict was based on evidence gathered during a pre-trial investigation by the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NAZK).
False Asset Declarations Uncovered
An audit of the deputy's 2024 declaration revealed signs of false reporting. In a separate case, NAZK also discovered undeclared assets worth 21.36 million hryvnias belonging to Viktor Zazulinsky, the former deputy head of a territorial bureau of the State Bureau of Investigations in the Kyiv region. Zazulinsky claimed he found nearly 30 million hryvnias in his deceased father's safe.
"The court sentenced the elected official to 150 hours of community service and also deprived him of the right to hold positions or engage in activities related to local government functions for one year," stated the National Agency on Corruption Prevention.
This incident underscores the critical importance of transparency in public officials' asset declarations within Ukraine's anti-corruption framework. NAZK continues its active work to identify false declarations, which can lead to serious consequences for state officials. Such court rulings may serve as a warning to other public servants about the necessity of strictly complying with asset declaration laws.
