Changes in food prices in Ukraine

According to ХВИЛЯ: In the lead-up to the holidays, significant changes in food prices have been noted in Ukraine. A set of 12 lean dishes now costs an average of 913.57 UAH, which is 11% more expensive than last year. At the same time, some basic vegetables are rapidly decreasing in price, creating certain opportunities for consumers.

Vegetable deflation and its consequences

Vegetable deflation: it's time to prepare vinaigrette. The prices for:

• cabbage decreased by 73%
• carrots – by 63%
• potatoes – by 54%

This allows for the preparation of traditional dishes, such as vinaigrette, at significantly lower costs. For example, dumplings with cabbage became 47% cheaper, while potatoes with garlic decreased by 40%. Additionally, lean borscht and vinaigrette fell in price by 18%.

The main anti-records of the season concern not only vegetables. The price index for kutia has increased by 37%, indicating a rise in the price of certain ingredients. The prices for:

• nuts increased by 60%
• honey by 40%
• dried fruits for uzvar: apples doubled in price, while prunes and pears rose by 140-168%

The price of meat borscht rose by 27% and now stands at 196 UAH, while pork has increased by 7% and lard by 16% (272 UAH per kg).

Meat, fish, and delicacies are also not spared from price changes. Herring and hake increased by 24-25%. Additionally, the price of cheese cuts is now 700 UAH, which is 40% more than before. The price of eggs has reached 81.6 UAH per dozen, which is 10% more than last December. Thus, consumers are feeling the rise in prices for a range of products while some vegetables continue to get cheaper.

Changes in food prices in Ukraine may affect consumers' habits during the holidays. Vegetable deflation may reduce expenses on traditional dishes, however, the rising prices of other key ingredients, such as nuts and honey, indicate that the overall budget for holiday meals may remain under pressure. Consumers should plan their expenses carefully, considering these price fluctuations.
