Sweden to Deliver Tridon Mk2 Air Defense Systems to Ukraine

According to Главком: Sweden is providing Ukraine with Tridon Mk2 air defense systems, valued at €400 million, to counter drones and other aerial threats. The announcement was made by the press service of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense. The Ukrainian Defense Forces will receive these Swedish systems, which are specifically designed to destroy drones and other airborne targets. This delivery is part of a broader Western effort to bolster Ukraine's layered air defenses against persistent Russian attacks.

The procurement is fully funded by Sweden, with the €400 million allocation representing nearly one-third of a total military aid package worth €1.2 billion. Sweden announced this comprehensive aid package back in February.

Capabilities of the Tridon Mk2 System

The Tridon Mk2 is a mobile, medium-range air defense system equipped with a 40mm Bofors 40 Mk4 automatic cannon. The cannon can engage targets at distances of up to 12 kilometers, with a maximum rate of fire reaching 300 rounds per minute. The system can also reduce its firing rate to 200 rounds per minute and utilizes programmable airburst munitions, making it highly effective against small, fast-moving targets like drones.

Separately, an experimental project involving the private sector in air defense operations has become active in Ukraine. The first results of this initiative have already been recorded in the Kharkiv region, where several enemy unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down.

The transfer of the Tridon Mk2 air defense systems signifies a deepening of military cooperation between Sweden and Ukraine in the face of escalating drone threats.
