Tankers with Oil: French Admiral Unveils the Size of Russia's Shadow Fleet
The French admiral emphasized that last year's attack on a tanker in the waters of the Arabian Sea highlights the risks posed by the shadow fleet to the safety of international shipping. Such activities violate laws and safety standards, which could have serious consequences for marine ecology and the security of shipping along all international sea routes.
Admiral Benoit de Gibeau, the maritime prefect of the English Channel and North Sea, reported the existence of Russia's shadow fleet, which consists of about 900 vessels. These vessels are used to transport oil to circumvent international sanctions.
For Ukraine, which is also monitoring movement and security in the seas, it is important to be vigilant about such violations and to support international oversight over oil transportation to prevent similar situations in the future.
