The European Council confirmed the unlocking of €18 billion for Ukraine: details

The leaders of the European Union member states have officially agreed to allocate €18 billion to Ukraine for its needs in 2023.

The EU remains committed to providing financial assistance to Ukraine and supporting its resilience and long-term post-war recovery, according to the officially released conclusions of the European Council.

'The European Union agreed to provide Ukraine with €18 billion in aid in 2023' - the statement said.

Additionally, EU leaders agreed to ramp up humanitarian assistance and civil protection aid to Ukraine, support the restoration of critical infrastructure in Ukraine, in order to enhance coordination with European industry and international partners, so that needed and critically important equipment - mobile heating points, generators, power transformers, as well as high-voltage and lighting equipment - is delivered to Ukraine without delay.

The EU will also continue to provide assistance to refugees both in Ukraine and in the territories of EU member states.

On the evening of December 15, Western media reported that EU leaders agreed at the summit to provide €18 billion in macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in 2023.

Initially, the vote for aid to Ukraine was unsuccessful - because the funds for Ukraine were part of a package deal, and Poland refused to support it.
