Ceasefire Declared in Kherson from October 27 to November 1 to Facilitate Evacuations and Humanitarian Aid
Ceasefire Implemented in Kherson and Oleshky
According to Рубрика — Суспільство: A ceasefire has been in effect in Kherson since October 27, set to continue until November 1, aimed at enabling humanitarian operations and the evacuation of civilians. The halt in shelling has led to more people appearing on the city streets. Both Ukrainian and Russian forces are overseeing the ceasefire, offering hope for a more stable situation.
The ceasefire began on October 27 at 3:00 AM Kyiv time and is scheduled to last until 10:59 PM on November 1. As of noon on October 28, both parties remain committed to honoring the agreement. Dmitry Lubinets, Ukraine’s Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, highlighted the impact of the truce, stating that
“the cessation of fire has brought life back to Kherson, a city previously under constant attack.”
In addition, ombudsman representative Vasyl Donets has been engaging with residents of the Kherson region to better understand their urgent needs.
Humanitarian Efforts and Conditions in Oleshky
The ceasefire also supports a humanitarian mission coordinated by Ukraine in partnership with Russian human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova, with mediation by Melania Trump. Dmitry Lubinets leads the Ukrainian negotiation team involved in these talks. Despite these efforts, conditions remain dire. Approximately 2,000 people in Oleshky, under Russian occupation since the early days of the full-scale invasion, have lacked access to food, clean water, and medicine since April 2026.
Starting October 27, a ceasefire applies in Oleshky as well, facilitating humanitarian aid delivery and civilian evacuation. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, this 30-hour truce has passed without any incidents. However, military officials urge the public to remain cautious about information sources, rely on official updates, and avoid sharing details about the movement of civilians and aid convoys.
“Beyond all negotiations and diplomatic efforts, the focus remains on people - their lives, safety, and hope for a peaceful future,”
emphasized Dmitry Lubinets.
The establishment of the ceasefire in Kherson and Oleshky opens critical windows for delivering humanitarian assistance and safely evacuating civilians amid a prolonged conflict. This development illustrates a rare moment of cooperation between adversaries focused on protecting the population. Nonetheless, the situation remains fragile, with many still in urgent need of aid, underscoring the ongoing necessity for sustained efforts toward a peaceful resolution.
As the ceasefire allows for humanitarian operations in Kherson and Oleshky, significant efforts are being made to deliver essential supplies to those in need. Notably, over 600 kg of baby supplies were airlifted by Ukrainian forces to the besieged Oleshky just ahead of the truce. This initiative underscores the urgency of addressing the dire conditions faced by civilians in the region.
