Suspect Detained for Setting Military Service Member's Vehicle on Fire

According to Прокуратура Київ: In Kyiv, a 30-year-old man has been arrested for accepting $1,500 to set fire to a soldier's SUV. The incident occurred in late 2025, when the suspect, seeking extra income through social media, agreed to carry out the criminal act. He has now been formally charged with obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This case highlights the ongoing risks faced by military personnel, even away from the front lines.

The man stole four bottles of flammable liquid from a supermarket to burn the Mitsubishi L200. He recorded the arson on his mobile phone, which provided investigators with direct evidence of his criminal intent. He faces charges under Part 1 of Article 114-1 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, which carries a potential prison sentence of 5 to 8 years.

This incident underscores the critical need to protect the rights and safety of military personnel serving during the armed conflict. Crimes against members of the Armed Forces carry severe consequences not only for the victims but for society as a whole. The ongoing investigation will serve to demonstrate:

  • the effectiveness of law enforcement in responding to such threats;
  • the potential social and legal repercussions for the accused.
