Kremlin's Statements on a Peace Deal

According to Главком: Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, stated that reaching a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia will require a significant amount of time. He also noted that while the United States is attempting to accelerate the negotiation process, Moscow believes the war remains far too complex to resolve quickly, and the path to a peaceful settlement will be extremely lengthy.

Military Parade in Moscow

A military parade concluded in Moscow, held against the backdrop of a declared three-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, which was in effect from May 9 to May 11. The parade took place under heightened security in central Moscow due to fears of drone attacks. A large presence of security forces and guards was observed on the square. The parade was commanded by General Andrey Mordvichev, who previously led the assault on Mariupol. Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov presided over the event.

Despite the announced truce, Russia attacked Ukraine with drones and a ballistic missile on the night of May 9. The occupiers launched over 30 drones, most of which were shot down by Ukrainian air defenses. However, one ballistic missile could not be intercepted. These actions indicate that even during a declared ceasefire, military operations continue.

The Kremlin's remarks about the difficulty of securing a peace agreement underscore the protracted nature of the conflict, which persists despite diplomatic efforts. The declared three-day ceasefire did not prevent Russia from carrying out military actions, highlighting the tense situation on the front lines. This suggests that both sides are still preparing for active hostilities, complicating the prospects for a near-term peaceful resolution.

As the Kremlin emphasizes the complexities of achieving a peace agreement, understanding Russia's conditions for war cessation becomes increasingly crucial. These demands shed light on the underlying challenges that continue to hinder diplomatic efforts, illustrating the multifaceted nature of the ongoing conflict.
