The Lviv supermarket chain «Arsen», which has been operating for over two decades, is ceasing its operations. All stores in Lviv will close by May 31, 2026, and some retail spaces may be taken over by the Novus and «Silpo» chains. This was reported by ZAXID.NET.

The 'Arsen' chain is closing its stores in Lviv after 24 years of operation

According to company employees, all 'Arsen' supermarkets in Lviv will operate only until the end of May. The company 'Eurotek', which owns the chain, has not officially commented on the situation for a long time.

Later, the chain confirmed the information about the closure of the stores. It is currently unknown which specific locations will be handed over to new tenants.

Preliminary data suggests that some premises may be occupied by Novus supermarkets and «Silpo». In particular, the store in the center of Lviv on Mickiewicz Square is likely to be transferred to «Silpo».

Stores have already started massively selling goods at discounts. Employees explain this as preparation for the final closure of the chain.

Why 'Arsen' is closing supermarkets in 2026

The 'Arsen' chain has been operating since 2002. The first supermarket was opened in Sykhiv, Lviv, and became one of the first large supermarkets in Western Ukraine.

After the financial crisis of 2009, the chain was bought by the 'Eurotek' group, which took on the company’s debts of about 80 million UAH.

According to YouControl, in 2025, the revenues of LLC 'Alliance Market', under which 'Arsen' operates, amounted to about 3 billion UAH. At the same time, the company has been unprofitable for the fifth consecutive year.

Last year, the net loss of the chain reached 73 million UAH. The company's debt obligations are estimated at 1.5 billion UAH, while assets amount to approximately 860 million UAH.

'Arsen' stores may also close in other cities

In addition to Lviv, the chain operates in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Rivne regions. Local media have already reported that stores in Ivano-Frankivsk may also cease operations from June 1, 2026.

There is currently no official information regarding the closure of supermarkets in Rivne.

The closure of 'Arsen' signifies the end of the history of one of the most well-known local retail chains in Western Ukraine. For the market, this is also a signal of increased competition from large national retailers who are gradually occupying regional retail spaces.
