Military Drone Wreckage with Explosives Discovered on Romanian Beaches

According to Radiotrek — Світ: On September 11, 2026, Romanian teams safely neutralized debris from ten military drones, some carrying explosives, along the Black Sea coastline and in the coastal counties of Tulcea and Constanța. The operations involved coordinated efforts from bomb disposal units, law enforcement, the coast guard, and included aerial and maritime patrols.

The initial discovery occurred around 1:30 PM in the village of Chilia Veche, Tulcea County, where two drone fragments without warheads were found on the beach. Later, at 3:18 PM in the Perișor area, border police recovered two more drone parts; one contained an unexploded charge that was safely defused on site by the Romanian Intelligence Service's bomb disposal experts, while the other fragment was handed over to Coast Guard specialists.

At approximately 4:00 PM, crew members aboard a civilian cargo ship spotted two drone pieces floating in the Black Sea. These were retrieved by a Coast Guard patrol boat and confirmed to be free of explosives. The final incident took place at 5:55 PM near Edighiol-Periboina in Constanța County, where the Ministry of Defense's EOD team found remnants of four aerial drones, including an interceptor drone armed with explosives. All discovered materials were secured and rendered safe.

Experts from the EOD team emphasized: 'These specific fragments did not pose an explosive threat and contained no warheads.'

The Romanian Ministry of Defense affirmed that every piece was neutralized and secured. Security agencies maintained close collaboration to ensure around-the-clock monitoring of border areas.

Regional Security Concerns

The uncovering of military drone debris raises concerns about the security situation in the Black Sea region, highlighting potential ongoing military activities. Given the existing geopolitical tensions among neighboring countries, Romania has intensified security measures and strengthened airspace surveillance. Protecting civilians and preventing any threats from emerging in popular tourist destinations remains a top priority for national authorities.

In light of recent events, the situation in the Black Sea region is becoming increasingly complex, especially following incidents like the intrusion of a Russian drone into Romanian airspace during the attack on Kyiv. Such developments underline the necessity for heightened vigilance and security measures, as authorities work to ensure the safety of the coastal areas and monitor potential threats in the region.
