A baby was born in the USA from an embryo that had been stored for 30 and a half years

According to glavcom.ua: On July 26, a boy named Thaddeus Daniel Pierce was born in the USA, developing from an embryo preserved for 30 years. This news was reported by MIT Technology Review.

The child's parents 'adopted' the embryo from Linda Archer, a woman who underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF). Doctors managed to create four embryos, one of which was implanted in the woman's uterus, while the other three were cryopreserved.

The oldest child

MIT Technology Review calls the boy born 'the oldest child.'

Tim and Lindsey Pierce tried to have children for seven years, after which they turned to the Open Hearts embryo adoption program.

Although Linda Archer currently does not plan to meet the boy, she called his birth 'a dream come true.' The newborn has a 30-year-old sister from his biological parents.

Other news in biotechnology

This year also saw the birth of the first child fertilized using a special device. A biotechnology company built a workstation that automates all stages of the procedure, reducing the risk of errors.

Moreover, Japan plans to create human embryos from stem cells. Scientists will obtain induced pluripotent stem cells from human skin cells, from which they will be able to create sperm and eggs for further formation of viable embryos.

The event of the birth of a child from an embryo preserved for more than 30 years is unique and opens new possibilities in the field of reproductive medicine. The adoption of embryos and the use of the latest technologies in fertilization testify to the progress in biotechnology and medicine.
