According to glavcom.ua: Ukraine has extradited a Russian serviceman to Lithuania for war crimes for the first time since the start of the war. The suspect has been linked to unlawful detention, torture, and inhumane treatment of civilians and prisoners of war held in Melitopol. The citizen of Lithuania had no connection to military actions but was detained and subjected to psychological pressure. Some of the prisoners died due to the brutal treatment.

In Lithuania, the suspect faces charges for war crimes, torture, and violations of the Geneva Conventions. He could receive a life sentence for this. Prosecutors consider this historical precedent an important step towards international justice and the prosecution of war criminals.

Lithuanian investigators claim that the personnel of the Russian army participated in the organization of a filtration camp at Melitopol airport, where prisoners were tortured and held in inhumane conditions. Participants in these crimes included citizens from other countries unrelated to the conflict.
