Ukraine Received 1.9 Million Hepatitis Tests: Who Can Get Tested for Free
The Ukrainian State Enterprise 'Medical Procurements' reported that over 1.9 million rapid test systems for detecting antibodies to hepatitis B and C viruses have been delivered to the country. These tests were purchased with state budget funds at the request of the Ministry of Health for 2025.
Distribution of 500,000 tests for hepatitis B and 500,000 for hepatitis C diagnostics has begun throughout Ukraine. An additional 850,000 tests are in stock awaiting distribution to the country's regions.
Viral hepatitis B and C are infectious liver diseases transmitted through blood contact. Hepatitis B has a chronic course and requires long-term treatment, while hepatitis C is often cured within a few months using modern antiviral drugs.
According to the Center for Public Health, in 2024, over 1.1 million people were tested for hepatitis B, of which 1.2% received a positive result. Over 420,000 people were screened for hepatitis C, among which 6.1% had positive results.
Doctors recommend getting tested for hepatitis B and C at least once in a lifetime. Screening for viral hepatitis for Ukrainian citizens is free; for this, one needs to contact their family doctor.
It was reported that a significant number of tests for detecting hepatitis B and C have arrived in Ukraine, which will help improve the diagnosis of these diseases. The distribution process has already begun, ensuring rapid and free screening for the country's citizens.
