Japan's Grant to Ukraine

According to Мінфін: Japan has provided Ukraine with a grant of nearly $1.3 billion as part of the World Bank's PEACE in Ukraine project. This is the second tranche of aid from Japan under the G7's ERA mechanism. The funds are designated to reimburse Ukraine's social expenditures, a critical measure for maintaining the nation's financial stability during the ongoing conflict. This support helps ensure the government can continue paying pensions and public sector salaries.

The total funding mobilized under the PEACE in Ukraine project now exceeds $53 billion. Since February 2022, Japan's budgetary assistance to Ukraine has surpassed $10.7 billion, making it the second-largest donor among nations and the fourth-largest among all donors globally. Of this total Japanese aid, more than $2.7 billion has been provided in the form of non-repayable grants.

'I sincerely thank the World Bank for its effective coordination of international aid and the Government of Japan for this grant. Thanks to this support, the total funding mobilized within the project has already exceeded $53 billion. This is a significant contribution to Ukraine's financial stability and the state's timely fulfillment of its social obligations to citizens,' - Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Serhiy Marchenko

The receipt of this new grant tranche underscores the vital importance of international assistance for Ukraine amid its economic crisis. Japan's support not only promotes the stability of the country's finances but also helps ensure the fulfillment of social obligations to the population. This continued cooperation with international partners is a positive signal for Ukraine's future economic recovery prospects.

The ongoing financial collaboration between Japan and Ukraine continues to evolve, as evidenced by the recent discussions on new funding avenues. This partnership not only reinforces Japan's commitment to supporting Ukraine but also addresses pressing budgetary needs.
