According to Главком: Ukraine has received the remains of deceased military personnel through a repatriation process. According to information provided by the Russian side, the thousand bodies returned belong to Ukrainian service members. This repatriation occurred on December 18, 2025, when 1,003 bodies were brought back to Ukraine. An earlier phase of repatriating the fallen via railway transport was completed on June 15, 2025. The return of the deceased is a critical humanitarian undertaking in the ongoing conflict.

Investigators and expert institutions from Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs are conducting the necessary examinations and identification procedures.
