Ukraine and Norway Unveil the Runic Stone in Kyiv Region: A Tribute to Viking Torvald

Unveiling of the Copy of the Alstad Runic Stone

According to Главком: Ukraine and Norway have unveiled a copy of the Alstad runic stone in the village of Vytachiv in the Kyiv region. This monument is dedicated to the Viking Torvald, who perished in this area during the reign of Yaroslav the Wise. The unveiling took place with the participation of the foreign ministers of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiha, and Norway, Espen Bart Eide.

The historical stone was erected in honor of Torvald, the son of Engli, who died in Vityakhoml, located between Ustakhoml and Gardar. Andriy Sybiha noted that this stone was established in memory of Torvald, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange between Ukraine and Norway.

Cultural Heritage and Cooperation

The project to create a copy of the runic stone originated a year ago during the ministers' visit to the local bakery, Vytach Bakery. Norwegian museums and the Norwegian Ministry of Culture participated in implementing this project, demonstrating the close cooperation between the two countries in the field of culture and history.

The unveiling of the stone has become a symbol of friendship and mutual understanding between Ukraine and Norway, as well as a reminder of their shared past.
