Ukraine and South Korea agreed on new infrastructure projects: details
The Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Oleksiy Sobolev discussed the prospects of investment cooperation between Ukraine and South Korea with representatives of POSCO International. The parties discussed specific projects, including the construction of a CHP in Odesa and the restoration of the grain terminal in Mykolaiv region.
The Korean delegation noted the cooperation of the Ukrainian government with the Economic Development and Cooperation Fund (EDCF) and KEXIM Bank. POSCO intends to join the project for the construction of a RDF-fueled power plant in Odesa, aimed at protecting the environment and using modern emission reduction technologies.
'The project in Odesa is very important for our ministry because it combines the investment component and the environmental aspect. This project is planned to be included in the list of priorities and submitted to the Unified Project Portfolio of the state,' emphasized Minister Sobolev.
In addition, the possibility of a joint project with JSC 'Ukrzaliznytsia' for the construction of a railway depot is being considered. In particular, various mechanisms for attracting investments are being considered, including government procurement instruments and public-private partnerships.
The Ukrainian side expressed the need to develop mechanisms to protect business in conflict conditions and reduce the cost of marine insurance, and is also working on supporting trade routes in Mykolaiv region.
Ukraine and South Korea are exploring opportunities to expand investment cooperation through the implementation of specific projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors. The discussed plans include the construction of CHP and power plants, as well as the restoration of the grain terminal and the construction of a railway depot. The Ukrainian government is also focusing on environmental aspects and protecting businesses in conflict conditions, seeking opportunities for joint cooperation and development in these areas.
