Ukrainian Traveler Max Noskov Robbed at Polish MOP Rest Area After 14-Hour Border Wait
Robbery Strikes Ukrainian Traveler at Polish Rest Stop
According to Radiotrek — Світ: While journeying through Poland with his mother, Max Noskov from Kyiv became a victim of theft at a MOP rest area. After enduring a lengthy 14-hour wait at the border, Max pulled over at the MOP site to rest briefly. During the night, while sleeping in his car, his vehicle’s windows were smashed, and cash, documents, and car keys were stolen.
Investigation and Official Response
The police were called to the scene and launched an inquiry into the incident. Officers interviewed witnesses, deployed a canine unit, and collected evidence. Max described the process: “A police crew arrived and questioned me, then a dog handler came and searched the area. After that, investigators took photos and asked further questions before leaving.” Following four hours of investigation, Max was taken to the police station, where his testimony was recorded and he was issued documents needed to cross the border. Authorities informed him that they would contact him if necessary, though the case remains open.
Max emphasized the importance of staying vigilant while traveling, warning others:
“Avoid stopping at rest areas overnight - I was told this isn’t the first time such incidents have happened.”
Ukrainian commenters noted that robberies at rest stops in Poland were common during the 1990s and that similar crimes also occur in countries like France, Spain, and Italy.
In Poland, rest areas known as MOP (Miejsce Obsługi Podróżnych) are designed to serve motorists and travelers. However, as Max’s experience reveals, these spots can pose safety risks after dark.
This event highlights the critical need for travelers to take safety precautions, especially when stopping overnight. Reports from other travelers suggest that thefts at rest stops are not isolated occurrences and may continue to be a threat, raising concerns among tourists. It is crucial for travelers to exercise caution and avoid risky situations, particularly in unfamiliar locations.
