Vera warns those planning to move to Spain about the issues with large flying cockroaches, locally known as cucarachas. According to her, these insects are observed in Valencia, Alicante, and along the entire Mediterranean coast.

Vovchuk notes that the cockroaches in Spain are huge, flying, and capable of entering homes through windows and doors.

“I still haven't gotten used to these porcupines. I scream every time a cockroach crawls into our bungalow,” she recounts.

According to Vera, cockroaches are present in homes regardless of the housing price. For example, she lived rent-free in a villa that the owner wanted to sell for 350,000 euros, for which she hired a company to exterminate the cockroaches.

Problems with cockroaches in Spain

It is worth noting that last summer, the demand for cockroach extermination services in Spain increased by 40%.

“By the way, the companies that exterminate cockroaches reported last summer that the demand for their services grew by 40% in Spain,” emphasizes Vovchuk.

She also mentioned that the Ukrainian cockroaches, which she last saw as a student, have now become extinct, while the large flying cockroaches in Spain most often belong to American or African species, measuring 5–10 cm in length and capable of flying short distances.

Thus, Vera Vovchuk urges potential migrants to consider the possible difficulties associated with living in Spain, particularly with large flying cockroaches. “And although a real estate agent shouldn't be talking about such things, I speak as it is, I tell the truth,” she adds.

The problem with large flying cockroaches in Spain may become an important factor for those planning to move to this country. The increase in demand for pest control services indicates that this issue is becoming increasingly relevant for local residents and new immigrants.
