Ukrainian wrestlers won four medals at the U23 World Championship: results
According to glavcom.ua: Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestlers showed excellent results at the U23 World Championship, which took place in Novi Sad (Serbia) from October 20 to 27. Our athletes won four medals, including two gold and two silver, bringing the team to second place in the overall ranking.
Yegor Yakushenko and Irfan Mirzoev - gold medalists
Yegor Yakushenko won in the finals in the 97 kg category against an athlete from Kazakhstan with a score of 6:1, earning his first 'gold' at this level of competition. He had previously been a two-time world champion among athletes under 20.
Irfan Mirzoev also claimed 'gold' in the finals in the 77 kg category, defeating an opponent from Georgia with a score of 4:1. For Irfan, this is already his second award at world championships: in 2023, he also became a silver medalist.
Ivan Chmyr won 'silver' in the finals in the 87 kg category, and Ruslan Abdiyev received a silver medal in his weight category up to 82 kg, taking second place.
Ukraine at the European Youth Olympic Festival and the World Summer Universiade
The Ukrainian team took 10th place in the overall ranking of the European Youth Olympic Festival, obtaining 5 gold, 8 silver, and 10 bronze medals. Most awards were won in judo.
The Ukrainian team at the World Summer Universiade took 14th place with 12 medals in their possession, including 4 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze. Among the winners was Mykola Rushchak from Sumy, who won the competition in race walking at 20 kilometers.
In summary, Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestlers impressed with their performances at the U23 World Championship, and Ukrainian athletes also performed successfully at the European Youth Olympic Festival and the World Summer Universiade, showing high results and securing a place in the top 15 teams in the world.
