Ukrainian Athletes Shine at the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games

According to Главком: On March 13, 2026, the seventh day of competition at the 2026 Winter Paralympics, Ukrainian athletes delivered an outstanding performance, securing six medals in para biathlon while also making their debut in para alpine skiing and competing in para snowboarding. This remarkable day highlighted the skill and dedication of Ukraine's team on the world stage.

Para Biathlon Medal Haul

Ukraine's medal success was concentrated in para biathlon, where athletes won six podium finishes:

  • Taras Rad claimed the silver medal in the men's sitting class;
  • Hryhorii Vovchynskyi also secured silver in the men's standing class, missing gold by a mere 0.2 seconds;
  • Iryna Bui won a silver medal in the women's standing race;
  • Oleksandra Kononova earned a bronze medal;
  • Oleksandr Kazik took silver in the men's vision impaired class;
  • Anatolii Kovalevskyi brought home a bronze medal for Ukraine.

A significant milestone was the debut performance of Ukrainian athlete Maksym Heliuty in para alpine skiing. He competed in the giant slalom (standing class), finishing in 27th place. This marked the first time a Ukrainian athlete has competed in alpine skiing disciplines at the Winter Paralympics in 12 years, signaling notable progress in the development of this sport within the country.

In para snowboarding, Vladyslav Khilchenko participated in the class for athletes with upper limb impairments, placing 21st. This event was his second start at the Paralympic Games. Overall, 13 medal events were contested on the seventh day across three sports: para biathlon, para alpine skiing, and para snowboarding, demonstrating the high level of competition and intensity of the Games.
