Unveiling the 'Heroic Professions: Brave to Save' Stamp Series

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: On September 17, coinciding with Rescuer's Day, Ukrposhta revealed a special postal issue titled 'Heroic Professions: Brave to Save.' This edition pays tribute to rescue workers operating in areas targeted by Russian strikes, risking their lives to save others amid ongoing threats of renewed attacks. The official stamp cancellation ceremony featured the participation of Igor Smiliansky, CEO of Ukrposhta, Andriy Danyk, Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS), and frontline rescuers.

Throughout the course of the war, Ukrainian stamps have illustrated various vital professions, including:

  • railway workers
  • medical personnel
  • energy specialists
  • communications experts
  • journalists
  • farmers
  • rescue workers

Artist Anastasiia Tuka depicted on the new stamp a scene featuring flames, a destroyed building, rescuers amid rubble, and a helicopter flying through smoky skies. The stamp highlights key DSNS tasks such as firefighting, search and rescue operations, debris clearance, demining, high-altitude rescues, and aiding victims.

“Today, we add rescuers to this story. They are often the first to arrive where a Russian missile or drone has just struck: extinguishing fires, clearing debris, searching for survivors, and providing psychological support. When the enemy targets our infrastructure, they also help preserve the very foundations of our country’s life. We are grateful.”

Igor Smiliansky

A firefighter’s standard gear weighs around 30 kg, supplemented by roughly 16.5 kg of body armor when operating in zones of Russian shelling. Fully equipped with water, crowbars, chainsaws, hydraulic tools, and stretchers, a rescuer’s load can exceed 60 kg. Following a Russian attack on the village of Myla in Bucha district at the end of August, over 300 rescuers and pyrotechnicians worked nonstop at the site. During the full-scale war, much of the DSNS’s work starts immediately after Russian strikes and often continues under the threat of repeated attacks.

“This stamp is more than just a postal release. It stands as a token of gratitude to those who face danger daily and do everything possible to save lives. Though the stamp shows different rescue professions, they share a single mission: courageous lifesaving. It is a great honor for us that the work of DSNS rescuers has received such a meaningful tribute. Thanks to everyone involved in making it happen.”

Andriy Danyk

The launch of the 'Heroic Professions: Brave to Save' stamp series highlights the crucial role and bravery of rescuers during wartime. It not only honors their dedication but also reminds the public of the essential nature of their efforts in maintaining safety and rescuing lives amid crisis.

In addition to the stamp honoring courageous rescuers, the collaboration between PrivatBank and the State Emergency Service has also made headlines with their launch of a unique skin collection designed to celebrate Rescuer's Day. This initiative further emphasizes the importance of these brave individuals who risk their lives daily. To learn more about this meaningful project, visit the special skin collection for rescuers.
