Ukraine’s Junior Divers Bring Home 14 Medals from European Championships
Junior Ukrainian Diving Team Shines at European Championship
According to НОК: Ukraine’s junior diving squad delivered an impressive performance at the European Championships held in Budapest from June 22 to 28. The team secured third place in the gold medal count and finished second overall in total points. In total, Ukrainian athletes won 14 medals: 3 gold, 3 silver, and 8 bronze.
The competition featured 158 athletes from 27 countries, competing in age groups A (born 2008–2010) and B (born 2011–2012). Nine different nations managed to reach the podium, highlighting the tournament’s high level of competition.
Gold and Silver Winners
Among the European champions, two athletes stood out:
- Nazariy Kononenko claimed gold in the boys’ Group B 1m springboard event;
- Alina Polonets won gold in both the 3m and 1m springboard events in the girls’ Group B category.
Silver medals were awarded to:
- Nazariy Kononenko and Valeriy Malyeyev in the synchronized platform event;
- Nazariy Kononenko and Alina Polonets in their respective individual categories.
Bronze medalists included:
- Sofia Vystavkina;
- Yelyzaveta Dyadyuk;
- Teams featuring Nazariy Kononenko, Valeriy Malyeyev, and other athletes.
The World Junior Championships are scheduled for August 21–28 in Rijeka, Croatia, where Ukraine’s young divers will have the chance to build on their success.
The strong showing by Ukraine’s junior diving team at the European Championships reflects the growing potential of the country’s athletes in this sport.
