Ukraine Launches Fuel Rebate Program for Drivers Starting March 20
Fuel Purchase Rebate Scheme
According to ХВИЛЯ: The Ukrainian government has approved a new program to provide financial relief to consumers facing rising fuel costs. This initiative will offer cashback on fuel purchases, starting on March 20 and running until May 1, 2026. The compensation rates vary by fuel type:
- Diesel fuel - 15% rebate;
- Gasoline - 10%;
- Autogas (LPG) - 5%.
However, a monthly limit of 1,000 UAH has been set for the total fuel rebate any single consumer can receive. This program is part of a broader economic support package during a period of significant inflation and market volatility.
One-Time Payment for Vulnerable Groups
Furthermore, the overall payment cap for all categories of goods in related programs remains at 3,000 UAH. The government also announced a one-time payment of 1,500 UAH for vulnerable citizens, including pensioners, persons with disabilities, and internally displaced persons. It is important to note that Ukraine does not currently plan to reduce the Value-Added Tax (VAT) on fuel, a factor that will continue to influence overall market prices.
"According to experts, this program alleviates the pressure from rising fuel prices for those who suffer the most, targeting real consumers: working people, small businesses, and farmers," a source from Forbes Ukraine noted.
Major fuel station networks have already joined the initiative, including:
- Ukrnafta;
- OKKO;
- WOG;
- Amic Energy;
- BVS;
- KLO;
- Motto;
- Chipo;
- VostokGas;
- Autotrans;
- Mango;
- Parallel;
- BRSM-Nafta.
The list of participating companies is expected to expand to include other networks such as UPG, Socar, Martin, and Marshal. This widespread participation is intended to help stabilize household budgets and support economic resilience during a challenging period.
The fuel compensation program represents a significant step to ease the financial burden on Ukrainian consumers, particularly given the instability in fuel markets. The involvement of major fuel retailers demonstrates a willingness from the business sector to collaborate with the government on socio-economic issues. This cooperation could positively impact overall consumer demand and provide crucial support to small businesses. The program's duration until 2026 allows consumers to plan their fuel expenses with greater certainty for the coming years.
In addition to the fuel rebate initiative, the government is also implementing targeted subsidies to further assist citizens affected by rising fuel prices. These new support programs aim to provide additional relief for vulnerable groups, ensuring that those most impacted receive the necessary help.
