In Ukraine, 69% of water supply facilities do not meet standards – State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service
According to glavcom.ua: The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection (State Food and Consumer Service) conducted extensive research on the quality of drinking water across the country since the beginning of 2025. Unfortunately, the monitoring results showed that there are serious issues with water supply that threaten public health.
According to the State Food and Consumer Service, during inspections at enterprises and water supply facilities, numerous violations of sanitary norms were found. In particular, over 69% of the inspected facilities had problems with water quality, which is dangerous for consumer health.
Serious violations were found at one-quarter of the wastewater treatment facilities, such as poor sanitary and technical conditions and insufficient provision of disinfection means.
Laboratory analyses also confirmed alarming results: over 23,000 samples of centralized water and over 1,000 samples of decentralized water did not meet quality standards. Due to the identified violations, more than 3,000 recommendations were issued to local government bodies, and currently, over 40% of them have already been implemented. Fines have also been imposed and cases have been transferred to law enforcement agencies.
Conclusion
The research by the State Food and Consumer Service confirmed widespread problems with water supply quality in Ukraine, posing a serious threat to public health. The negative impact of the war on infrastructure significantly affects this situation, and additional measures are needed to improve water quality and ensure population safety.
