In Ukraine, military training for students has been revised: what will be mandatory
Deputy Minister of Education Mykhailo Vinnytskyi announced the development of a new bill that will abolish the mandatory basic general military training for university students. Instead, it is planned to introduce a course 'Fundamentals of National Resistance'.
“What are we going to do with such a reality when a large number of people (I mean thousands) want to pay off from BZVMP: 'I don’t want to – I can’t for various reasons, so let’s go, dear instructor, sign me up, and here’s 100 bucks.' And this will be a nationwide problem,”
he emphasized.
Member of Parliament Inna Sovsun criticized the authorities for insufficient communication with the public regarding the introduction of military training for students. She noted the need for transparent and accessible information for the hundreds of thousands of people who could be involved in this issue.
Education and Science Editor Oksana Onyshchenko believes that a wide public discussion of the new bill should be held with the participation of all interested parties and experts, as mistakes in this area can cost the country very dearly.
The government is developing a new bill on military training for students, which implies the replacement of basic general military training with the course 'Fundamentals of National Resistance'. Society expresses criticism of the authorities for insufficient communication on this issue and calls for a wide discussion of the bill involving experts.
