In Ukraine, there are over 130 thousand veterans with disabilities: new data from the Ministry of Veterans
According to hvylya.net: Ukraine has over 130 thousand veterans with disabilities. According to Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs Ruslan Prykhodko, there are over 130 thousand veterans with disabilities due to war in the country. This includes various disability groups caused by different types of injuries, traumas, and concussions.
'Today, Ukraine has a total of over 130 thousand veterans with disabilities due to war – of various groups, caused by different types of injuries, health damage, traumas, concussions, and disabilities.'
The Deputy Minister also highlighted the issue of vision impairments among veterans. He noted that there is no clear statistic regarding the number of veterans with vision impairments, but in 2023, over 18 thousand such cases were reported.
'Non-governmental institutions working with veterans who have complete or partial vision loss report a very high percentage of such cases.'
Emphasis on the proper rehabilitation of veterans
The Deputy Minister explained that the changing dynamics of combat significantly affected the nature of the injuries sustained by Ukrainian defenders. Therefore, it is important to properly organize the rehabilitation process for veterans, especially those who faced vision loss.
'When it comes to veterans with complete vision loss, it is extremely important to correctly organize the work with the patient at the primary stage – to teach them basic self-care skills during the acute period and during rehabilitation. In the future, this work should continue systematically.'
According to statistics, it is important to develop specialized rehabilitation programs for veterans with different types of disabilities to address the challenges faced by healthcare and social security systems in conflict conditions.
The number of veterans with disabilities due to war in Ukraine is over 130 thousand individuals. The issue of vision impairments among veterans is relevant, and therefore it is important to properly organize the rehabilitation process for this category of individuals. The development of specialized rehabilitation programs is important to address the problems arising in the health of veterans as a result of military events.
