International Research: What Ukrainian Students Expect from School During the War

According to hvylya.net: The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine announced the presentation of international research at the V Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen. The research 'Education as a Tool for Shaping Personal Resilience, Social Capital of the Country, and a Culture of Peace' covered 14 countries, including Ukraine, and included participation from teachers, students, and parents.

According to the survey results, Ukrainian students value fairness and support from teachers, the ability to provide support, and understanding of life circumstances. They also consider the skills that school develops, such as creative thinking, attentiveness, responsibility, the ability to work in a team, and emotional stability, as important.

According to the research results, from the teacher, children expect most of all fair treatment (32%) and support and respect (31%);
Ukrainian students consider the most valuable traits in a teacher during the war to be the ability to provide support (58%) and understanding of life circumstances (56%).

Formation of a Culture of Peace

Students also answered questions about what can contribute to the formation of a culture of peace, pointing to the development of empathy, tolerance, and respect for different opinions as key aspects.

The research emphasized the importance of psychological and emotional support from teachers for students during the war conflict and beyond, as well as recognized the significance of developing essential skills that help students become successful citizens and contribute to the formation of a culture of peace.
