'Pajama Day' Charity Event to Support Families in Ukraine

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: On November 13, Ukraine will hold the seventh annual 'Pajama Day' fundraiser, organized by the charity Ronald McDonald House Charities Ukraine. This event aims to raise funds for the construction of a dedicated House for families of critically ill children receiving treatment at the national specialized pediatric hospital, Okhmatdyt.

The forthcoming five-story facility will cover 3,500 square meters and include:

  • 50 bedrooms,
  • a modern kitchen,
  • play areas,
  • a library, and communal spaces designed to foster support and connection.

Families will be able to stay in the House free of charge for as long as their child’s treatment requires.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Ukraine is part of an international network present in 62 countries and regions worldwide. Since its establishment in Ukraine in 2016, it has opened six Family Rooms in state hospitals across Kyiv, Lviv, Vinnytsia, Rivne, Sumy, and Kharkiv-though the ones in Sumy and Kharkiv are temporarily closed. Hospitalized children often spend much of their time in pajamas, which provide comfort and a sense of home.

Ways to Get Involved

Participants can join the initiative by wearing pajamas to work, school, or at home and by making donations through a special online link. Sharing photos on social media with the hashtag #PajamaDay2026 also helps raise awareness and enters supporters into prize drawings.

“This project will allow thousands of families each year to stay together in a home-like environment during treatment, receive professional social and emotional support, and reduce expenses related to accommodation and meals.”

Taking part in 'Pajama Day' helps provide crucial comfort and encouragement to families navigating the challenges of caring for seriously ill children.

Over the years, this charity event has grown into a meaningful tradition that unites people behind a shared cause: supporting families facing difficult circumstances. Since children's treatments can often be lengthy and stressful, offering a welcoming place to stay significantly improves their quality of life. Beyond raising awareness, 'Pajama Day' also generates vital funding to bring this essential project to life, benefiting those who need it most.

In addition to the upcoming 'Pajama Day' fundraiser, various local establishments are also stepping up to assist families of children facing serious health challenges. Many Ukrainian cafes and restaurants are joining forces to provide support through special initiatives, which not only raise funds but also create a sense of community during these tough times.
