New Carpathian Route Launched in Ukraine to Support Veterans' Recovery
Ukraine Introduces 'Journey to Self: Paths of Recovery' National Program
According to УНІАН — Туризм: In August 2026, Ukraine officially unveiled the nationwide initiative 'Journey to Self: Paths of Recovery,' designed to aid the mental and physical rehabilitation of the country’s defenders. This program features innovative travel routes, with a standout itinerary spanning the picturesque regions of Lviv and Zakarpattia. Highlights of this route include:
- hiking across mountain meadows,
- visits to local museums,
- horseback riding experiences,
- exploring artisan craft workshops,
- and relaxing stays at a ranch nestled in the foothills.
The journey traverses the scenic Skole Beskids, majestic mountain peaks, the historic rock fortress of Tustan, and the charming towns of Mukachevo and Uzhhorod. At the route’s conclusion, participants enjoy a cheese tasting at a local dairy producer. Notably, this trail has been tested by Ukrainian servicemen, including public figure, blogger, and veteran Oleksandr Teren, whose feedback has been instrumental in refining the program.
The Vital Role of Veteran Feedback
Natalia Tabaka, Head of the State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine, emphasized the importance of veterans personally experiencing and evaluating the route.
"Their direct input allows us to identify real obstacles and challenges. This insight helps us establish new Ukrainian hospitality standards that truly support the mental and physical recovery of our defenders. The Carpathians offer immense natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, and our goal is to make these resources more accessible to those who need them most." Natalia Tabaka
Previously, the 'Journey to Self' program featured routes in the Mykolaiv and Khmelnytskyi regions, including a path from Kamianets-Podilskyi to Bakota. Detailed information about the new Carpathian route is available at dosebe.travel. The initiative continues to expand, providing Ukrainians with fresh opportunities for healing and leisure.
The launch of 'Journey to Self: Paths of Recovery' marks a significant advancement in supporting veterans' well-being after their service. Beyond boosting Ukraine’s tourism infrastructure, the program prioritizes the specific needs of defenders by offering them restorative experiences in the country’s most breathtaking landscapes. Engaging veterans throughout the route development process highlights the importance of their perspectives in creating high-quality tourism services and standards.
As part of the ongoing efforts to enhance veterans’ recovery experiences, the newly launched Carpathian route complements previous initiatives, such as the one in Khmelnytskyi. This earlier program, which also focused on rejuvenation through exploration, showcases how diverse travel routes across Ukraine can play a vital role in supporting those who have served.
