Former Ukrainian Prison Official and Relative Ordered to Pay Over 900,000 UAH from Sale of Luxury SUV

According to САП: The High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) has upheld a lawsuit filed by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) seeking the recovery of proceeds from illegally acquired property. Vasyl Kirienko, the former head of the South-Eastern Interregional Directorate for the Execution of Criminal Punishments under Ukraine's Ministry of Justice, together with a close relative, must each pay 454,800 Ukrainian hryvnias. This sum stems from the sale of a Land Rover Range Rover Vogue, which had previously been classified as an unjustified asset.

The ruling was issued on July 27, 2026, by a HACC panel of judges. The court deemed the income of 909,600 hryvnias generated from the vehicle’s sale-conducted in September 2024 for 4,200,000 hryvnias-to be an unjustified asset. Although the vehicle itself had already been recognized as such and its value forfeited to the state, the proceeds from its sale are now to be recovered from the defendants in equal shares.

Basis for the Lawsuit

The case relied on evidence gathered jointly with the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP).
