According to Велика українська енциклопедія: June 14, 2023, marks the 116th anniversary of the birth of Valerian Dmytrovych Revutskyi, a distinguished theater scholar, educator, and critic. He earned a PhD and gained recognition for his contributions to art studies. In 1957, he was appointed as a professor, and in 1994, he became a member of the National Union of Theater Artists of Ukraine (NUTAU). This date serves as a moment to reflect on his lasting impact on Ukrainian theater and academia.

Academic and Journalistic Contributions

In 2001, Revutskyi was elected as a foreign full member of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, and in 2002, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine. He received the literary and artistic I. Kotlyarevsky Prize in 1995, and in 2010, he was honored with the Grand Gold Medal from the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine.

His career in journalism began in 1941 in Kyiv, where he wrote articles for the newspaper 'Ukrainske Slovo' (Ukrainian Word). In 1944, he worked in Lviv, and from 1946 to 1947, he was active in Italy. Starting in 1949, he contributed to the 'Encyclopedia of Ukrainian Studies,' eventually becoming the editor of its theater section in 1955. His work remains a cornerstone in the fields of theater studies and Ukrainian cultural heritage.
