Development of a new ballistic missile as part of the Nightfall project
According to ХВИЛЯ: The United Kingdom has confirmed the development of a new ballistic missile as part of the Nightfall project, aimed at meeting Ukraine's defense needs. This announcement came during the visit of British Defense Minister John Healey to Kyiv. The parameters of the missile have been significantly revised, particularly the range, warhead, and cost.
Updated missile requirements
The initial requirements for the missile included:
- range over 600 km;
- accuracy within 5 meters;
- price up to 500,000 pounds sterling.
However, the updated requirements have reduced the range to over 500 km, increased the warhead to 200 kg, allowed error will be 10 meters, and the price has risen to 800,000 pounds sterling, which is approximately equivalent to 1 million dollars. The deadline for manufacturers to submit applications is set for February 9, 2026, with contracts planned to be signed in March 2026.
The first prototypes of the new missile may appear in trials at the end of 2026 - beginning of 2027. As part of the Brakestop program, the first prototypes already took to the skies in December 2025. This project promises to be an important step in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities.
The development of the new ballistic missile as part of the Nightfall project is part of the United Kingdom's efforts to support Ukraine in the face of growing military threats. Changes in the missile's technical specifications, such as reduced range and increased warhead, may indicate a desire to adapt weapons to real battlefield needs. It also highlights the duration and seriousness of international cooperation in the defense sector, which is becoming increasingly important in today's security conditions in Europe.
