Skoda Stops Production of Manual Transmissions: What’s Next
November 2025 will be a turning point for Czech automaker Skoda — the company will completely cease production of manual transmissions, bringing an end to the 25-year history of the MQ200 transmission.
During this time, the Czechs have produced almost 10 million such transmissions, which were installed not only in Skoda cars but also in Volkswagen and Audi.
The closure of the MQ200 line will affect the plant in Mlada Boleslav, but there will be no mass layoffs - employees will be transferred to the production of electric transmissions.
The new Skoda Elroq electric crossover already confirms a high demand for electric models, which fits into the brand's strategy.
In the near future, all Skoda cars will receive seven-speed DSG automatic transmissions due to customer demand. Thus, manual gearboxes may disappear from the mass segment, remaining only in premium cars of other brands.
Skoda has announced the end of production of MQ200 manual transmissions, showing a response to the increasing demand for automatic transmissions and the development of electric models.
