Five Power Substations and a Gas Facility Hit by Ukrainian Drones in Crimea
Ukrainian Drone Strikes Target Crimea's Energy Infrastructure
According to Главком: On July 7, Ukrainian drones launched attacks on five electrical substations and a gas distribution station in the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula. These strikes were part of a broader operation that, between July 1 and July 7, hit 44 energy hubs across Crimea and the southern portion of occupied territories. Commander Robert "Madyar" Brovdi of the Unmanned Systems Forces confirmed the actions, stating:
"The occupier has no use for a power outlet."
Targeted Facilities and Events
The Crimean sites hit included the following electrical substations:
- Chkalove 35/10 kV
- Zakhidno-Krymska 330 kV
- Saky 110 kV
- Kamysh-Burun 220 kV in Kerch
- Mytiaieve 110 kV
The Tasunovo gas compressor station was also struck. These attacks are intended to degrade the capabilities of Russian forces in the region.
In addition to the energy infrastructure strikes, during the night of July 7, Ukrainian drones targeted the Russian vessel MS Ivan Cheremisinov. Overall, the operation involved attacks on 12 Russian ships, including two oil tankers that were the 9th and 10th such vessels hit within a 24-hour period. Robert "Madyar" Brovdi commented:
"A bit of a spoiler: the Birds of the USF just lit up two more tankers in the Sea of Azov. Numbers 9 and 10 for the current day's tankers, 12 vessels in total."
Through these operations, Ukrainian forces are showcasing their ability to challenge the occupiers. Robert "Madyar" Brovdi emphasized:
"We will stand. Moscow will fall. We will restore and rebuild Crimea."
These events highlight the activity of Ukrainian drones in the region and their role in Ukraine's military strategy.
These attacks on Crimean energy sites and Russian vessels signal an escalation in the conflict and a shift in Ukraine's approach to reclaiming occupied territories. By focusing on infrastructure that supports Russian military operations, Ukraine aims to significantly hinder the enemy's ability to conduct combat in the area. Such operations also underscore the growing proficiency of Ukrainian forces with modern technology, particularly drones, reinforcing their critical function in the current military strategy.
These recent drone strikes are part of a wider strategy by Ukraine to disrupt Russian military operations in the region.
