Economist Reveals Russia's Military Budget is More Than Double Ukraine's

Russian military budget twice that of Ukraine: economist reveals figures
Аналітики виявили, що військові витрати Росії перевищують українські у двічі.

Vast Disparity in Military Spending Between Ukraine and Russia

According to ХВИЛЯ: Economist Oleh Ustenko, speaking on political analyst Yuriy Romanenko's broadcast, highlighted the enormous gap between the military budgets of Ukraine and the Russian Federation. He stated that Ukraine's military budget stands at $65 billion, while Russia's exceeds $165 billion. Ustenko emphasized that Russia can directly allocate approximately $100 billion for its war against Ukraine, granting the aggressor a substantial financial advantage. This disparity underscores the immense pressure on Ukraine's defense capabilities as the war continues.

During the broadcast, Ustenko stressed that standard budgetary support cannot be used for weapons procurement.

"Let me remind you that we have allocated $65 billion for our military machine, while the aggressor has more than double that amount," the economist noted.

He added that it is crucial to secure funds specifically for purchasing military equipment for the Ukrainian army, as 'these funds were supposed to be used by the Europeans themselves to buy armaments for us. Now, this issue seems to be in limbo.'

Urgent Need for Defense Funding

Ustenko expressed concern over the lack of progress in the funding mechanism from international partners, noting he was more optimistic previously.

"Last time I was more optimistic because it's clear that when you have such a temporary shortfall in funds, so-called bridge financing is needed, which is currently absent," he added.

These comments highlight the critical importance and urgency of securing financing to sustain Ukraine's defense capacity against an adversary with vastly greater economic resources.

The funding situation for the Ukrainian military remains critically important in the context of the ongoing war. The budget gap between Ukraine and Russia demonstrates the necessity for enhanced international support to ensure defense readiness. With Russia capable of significantly increasing its military expenditures, it is vital for Ukraine to obtain additional resources to restore and modernize its armed forces to resist the aggression. The issue of funding military needs remains unresolved and requires urgent attention at both national and international levels.

The financial challenges facing Ukraine extend beyond military spending. As highlighted by Ustenko, the nation's recovery from war damage, relying solely on domestic taxes, would take an astonishing 300 years. This stark reality underscores the need for international support to not only bolster military capabilities but also facilitate the country's long-term rebuilding efforts.
