Ukrainian Forces Strike Russian Naval Base in Novorossiysk Causing Major Equipment Losses
Novorossiysk Naval Base Targeted in Coordinated Ukrainian Drone Assault
According to ХВИЛЯ: In the early hours of September 9, Ukraine’s Defense Forces launched a sophisticated strike against the Russian naval base in Novorossiysk, utilizing unmanned aerial systems. The offensive resulted in the destruction of multiple military vessels, including missile carriers. Robert Brody, commander of Ukraine’s drone forces (callsign 'Madjar'), confirmed that the port infrastructure suffered substantial damage during the intense drone barrage.
Follow-up Strikes Extend to Anapa and Gelendzhik
The second phase of the operation involved precision attacks targeting the areas of Anapa and Gelendzhik. In this phase, a carrier-based Su-33 fighter jet and a Mi-8 helicopter were eliminated. Additionally, two radar systems were taken out in Gelendzhik: the Kasta 2E2 and the 92N6 radar, which is integral to the S-300/400 surface-to-air missile system. A fire also broke out at a nearby fuel oil terminal in Novorossiysk’s port following the explosions, exacerbating the damage.
Novorossiysk’s mayor, Andriy Kravchenko, confirmed the attack, while Robert Brody detailed the scale:
“The Novorossiysk naval base lost several military vessels, including missile carriers, during the complex strike carried out by the Defense Forces with drone support on the night of September 9.”
He added,
“In Anapa, drone units destroyed a Su-33 fighter jet, a Mi-8 helicopter, and two radar complexes overnight.”
Brody concluded his remarks with a resolute statement: 'We will endure. Moscow will fall.'
This operation marks a significant moment in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, highlighting Ukraine’s growing capability to strike critical military installations. The loss of missile carriers and other equipment could notably weaken Russia’s operational capacity in the Black Sea region. Furthermore, the attack is likely to boost morale among Ukrainian forces and civilians alike. These developments may prompt a reassessment of regional security strategies and influence the scope of international support for Ukraine.
As the Ukrainian forces demonstrate their increasing operational capabilities, similar strikes have been reported across various regions, including Donetsk, Crimea, and Zaporizhzhia. These coordinated attacks highlight a broader strategy aimed at crippling Russian military assets.
