New Childcare Subsidy Program Now Active

According to Кабмін: The Ukrainian government has initiated payments under its new childcare support scheme, known as 'eYasla'. Initial disbursements have already reached 1,370 recipients, with over 46,000 families having received payments for children up to one year old. This initiative provides a monthly stipend of 8,000 hryvnias to mothers, fathers, or guardians who return to work after their child's first birthday. The funds are intended to cover costs for a nanny, childcare assistant, or kindergarten fees. This program is part of a broader effort to support families and encourage workforce participation after parental leave.

Payment Accounts and Additional Family Benefits

Families can open special accounts for receiving these funds at Oschadbank. Starting in 2024, the monthly assistance for caring for a child under one year will increase to 7,000 hryvnias. Furthermore, other state benefits remain in effect, including:

  • Maternity and childbirth allowance;
  • A one-time payment of 50,000 hryvnias upon the birth of a child.
"The government is working to expand application channels, including through the Diia portal. Accessing childcare support should be as simple, clear, and convenient as possible for families." - Yuliia Svyrydenko

This family support program represents a significant step in providing financial aid to parents re-entering the workforce after parental leave. It aims to alleviate the financial burden on households and create more favorable conditions for raising children. With the planned increase in payment amounts and the simplification of the application process, the initiative is expected to have a positive impact on the country's socio-economic landscape.
