Bail of 10 Million Hryvnias Paid for Ukrainian Lawmaker Tyshchenko in Call Center Case
The Case Against Mykola Tyshchenko
According to Главком: A full bail of 10 million UAH (approx. $245,000) has been posted for People's Deputy Mykola Tyshchenko in connection with allegations involving call centers and money laundering. As of July 10, 2024, the funds have been fully deposited. Tyshchenko personally contributed 650,000 UAH, while a private company based in Dnipro provided 5 million UAH, and an individual paid 4.35 million UAH.
On July 3, the High Anti-Corruption Court ordered Tyshchenko to post 10 million UAH bail as a preventive measure. The court also required him to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet, surrender his foreign passports, remain within Kyiv unless granted permission, appear for all summons, and refrain from contacting witnesses. On June 29, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) officially notified Tyshchenko of suspicion for extorting over $1 million in exchange for 'resolving issues' related to call center operations. He is also accused of laundering illegally obtained assets and filing false information in his asset declaration.
Charges and Reactions
According to investigators, the lawmaker allegedly promised to use his official authority to interfere with call center operations in return for a bribe. Authorities believe Tyshchenko laundered 12.6 million UAH through a sham gift agreement with his ex-wife. Tyshchenko denies all allegations. Notably, he brought a piece of salo (cured pork fat) to the High Anti-Corruption Court hearing.
This case has drawn significant public attention, as it highlights broader issues of corruption within Ukraine's political system. The charges against Tyshchenko may intensify calls for greater transparency and accountability among public officials, while also shaping public perception of anti-corruption efforts at the highest levels of government. The situation remains closely watched as the investigation continues, and the court's next steps could have serious implications for Tyshchenko's political career and his party allies.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the spotlight remains on Tyshchenko's alleged involvement in a significant extortion scheme.
