Statements about the Ukrainian ballistic missile have been made since 2023, but the testing deadlines have changed

Yaroslav Zheleznyak analyzed about 60 public statements by Ukrainian officials and representatives of the defense industry regarding ballistic missiles. According to his calculations, half of them were made in 2026, but he found no confirmations of serial production or combat use of the missile in open sources. This was reported by the people's deputy in a video on his YouTube channel. Earlier, there were reports about the testing of the FP-7 missile.

Statements on Ukrainian ballistic missiles: how the deadlines changed

According to Zheleznyak, the first public mentions of Ukrainian ballistic developments appeared back in 2023. At that time, officials spoke about missile projects "Sapsan" and "Grim". The term "ballistic missile" was used by President Volodymyr Zelensky in August 2024, announcing successful tests.

In 2025, there were more statements about the program. In particular, there were talks about separate funding, future production, and readiness timelines for the missiles. Representatives of Fire Point also reported on the developments of FP-7 and FP-9.

In 2026, public statements became more frequent, but the announced deadlines were repeatedly postponed. "The deadlines according to those same public statements were constantly changed," noted Zheleznyak. In August, the president said that Ukraine was close to a result, while representatives of Fire Point named the fall as the target for combat use. Later, the company stated that it planned to achieve this by the end of fall. Earlier, the president had also talked about the possible use of ballistics in fall 2026.

What the count of public statements showed

In total, Zheleznyak counted about 60 statements made between 2023 and September 2026. Seventeen of them, according to his calculations, were made by the president, 20 by representatives of Fire Point, and another 14 by officials. The rest came from representatives of the presidential office, the National Security and Defense Council, the General Staff, state companies, and people's deputies.

The most statements, 30, were recorded in 2026. At the same time, Zheleznyak emphasized that his analysis relates to open information and is not a claim about the absence of development. "I sincerely hope that we will have our own ballistic capabilities," he said, adding that he currently lacks sufficient public data to confirm its readiness.

The deputy warned that regular announcements without clear results could create inflated expectations. He expressed hope that the development would be successfully completed and that statements about it would not be used for political publicity.
