Flu and COVID-19 Situation in Ukraine: A Closer Look

According to Міністерство Здоров'я: Between May 4 and May 10, 2026, Ukraine saw a notable decline in cases of influenza, COVID-19, and other acute respiratory viral infections (ARVIs). A total of 106,529 new cases were reported during this period, representing a 9.3% decrease from the previous week. Of those infected, 41,622 were adults and 64,907 were children. Since the start of the epidemic season on September 29, 2025, a cumulative 4,136,328 individuals have fallen ill.

During the reporting week, 45 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, with 2,309 patients requiring hospitalization-among them 1,416 children. Importantly, infection rates across all regions of Ukraine remain at baseline levels. Since the beginning of the season, 22,064 COVID-19 cases have been registered, marking a 7.4% reduction compared to the same period last year.

Recognizing Symptoms and Prevention Tips

To help the public stay informed, it is essential to know how to identify these infections. Flu symptoms include:

  • high fever,
  • chills,
  • severe headache,
  • dry cough.

For COVID-19, common signs include:

  • fever,
  • cough,
  • fatigue,
  • sore throat,
  • loss of smell or taste.

At the first sign of illness, experts advise contacting a family doctor, staying home, using separate utensils, and washing hands regularly.

The downward trend in flu, COVID-19, and other ARVI cases points to a positive shift in Ukraine’s epidemiological landscape. Nevertheless, continued adherence to preventive measures and awareness of symptoms remain crucial for timely response. Health authorities are maintaining close surveillance to quickly address any potential outbreaks.

As the situation continues to evolve, recent reports indicate a concerning rise in flu and respiratory infections in Kyiv, particularly among children. This highlights the importance of remaining vigilant and informed about the ongoing health trends across the country.
