The Potocki Castle of the 16th Century Will Become a Cultural Center: How It Is Being Revived
The Potocki Castle in Kozova Will Become a Multifunctional Center
The ruins of the 16th-century Potocki Castle in Kozova, Ternopil region, are planned to be transformed into a modern multifunctional cultural center for the community, featuring an exhibition hall, café, church, museum, and shelter. The project is being implemented by the public organization 'Institute of Urban Culture'. They have received a grant of 20 thousand euros from the European Union's House of Europe Program. The first events are planned to take place as early as January. According to 'Glavkom', this is mentioned in a report by 'Suspilne'.
History of the Building
The 16th-century building once had defensive significance. Later, the castle was converted into a brewery, and then it was used for the production of non-alcoholic beverages. For a long time, the building was used as a warehouse, says the new owner, entrepreneur Igor Mamus.
'I myself am from Kozova. I lived next to the castle, on the neighboring street. My windows and my yard faced directly onto it. I was amazed because the houses looked ordinary, but this structure stood out. I actually explored all the cellars in this castle when I was a child,' says Igor Mamus.
The entrepreneur explains that he purchased the castle to create an art space. He says it was essentially a ruin.
Plans for the Future
'They say it's easier to build a new house than to renovate an old one. We removed 50 cm of garbage from here,' says the castle owner.
In the building, Igor Mamus plans to renovate the roof and floor, install heating, and create a bathroom. They aim to complete everything by January 1.
'The castle and Kozova had a different architectural appearance before World War II. I dream of restoring it at least partially,' adds the entrepreneur.
Earlier it was reported that in Cherkasy, a displaced person is growing the world's most expensive spice.
