Zaporizhzhia NPP has lost power again: this is the 12th blackout since the beginning of the war
Situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant
According to Главком: The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has lost power again due to shelling, leading to 12 blackouts since the start of the war. The latest incident occurred on January 3, 2023, when the plant was disconnected from one of the high-voltage lines. This incident happened less than a month ago and is further confirmation of the vulnerability of energy infrastructure in wartime conditions.
At night, during the latest attacks, strikes were recorded on the energy infrastructure of Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. In particular, the Kherson Thermal Power Plant was attacked, further complicating the electricity supply situation. Meanwhile, restoration work is ongoing in Odesa and Kyiv regions.
Repair of power lines and international cooperation
Recently, the repair of the power line near the Zaporizhzhia NPP was completed. A local ceasefire was achieved through the mediation of the International Atomic Energy Agency for these works, which highlights the importance of international cooperation in ensuring the safety of nuclear facilities during the conflict.
These events underscore the critical importance of protecting energy infrastructure in wartime, as restoring electricity supply is vital for the stability of the region. International support and mediation, particularly through the International Atomic Energy Agency, can play a key role in preventing catastrophic consequences related to the safety of nuclear facilities during the conflict.
