Teachers' salaries are half the average, but job applications are rising

In September 2025, the average salary of teachers in Ukraine reached 12,500 UAH - 8.7% more than last year, but still half the national average of 25,911 UAH. This is reported by Delo.ua based on data from OLX Work.

Job openings for teachers are rising

Despite modest salaries, responses to teaching job vacancies have increased by 44%, while the number of listings has remained stable, signaling an increase in interest in the profession.

OLX Work analysts describe pedagogy as one of the highest-paying fields, but the numbers tell a different story: the average salary of full-time employees rose to 25,911 UAH in August, while teachers earn only half. 

How much do teachers in Poland earn?

In neighboring Poland, teachers' salaries start at 57,000 UAH and can go up to 83,000 UAH depending on the category and experience - this is an incentive for migration, but the job market in Ukraine is revitalizing despite challenges. The number of responses to job openings has increased because the profession offers stability during wartime, even with low income.

What is the salary of kindergarten teachers in 2025?

In preschool education, the situation is better: the median salary of educators has increased to 14,500 UAH (+11.5% year-on-year), responses to listings have increased by 12%, and the number of vacancies has risen by 20%. Tutors, working hourly, earn 400 UAH/hour (+33% compared to 2024), with a 78% increase in responses and 23% more listings - the demand for individual learning is hitting records due to the remote format.

What is included in a teacher's salary?

The structure of a teacher's salary includes a base rate of 3,195 UAH plus tariff coefficients, allowances, and bonuses. To motivate, they add 10-50% of the salary (600-2,500 UAH per item) for experience, certification, prestige, foreign language skills, or complexity. Without experience - 6,694 UAH, almost half the sector average of 12,649 UAH. Seniority bonuses:

• more than 3 years - 10% of the salary;

• more than 10 years - 20%;

• more than 20 years - 30%.

The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education are looking for ways to raise salaries, but the priorities are defense and the budget sphere in the conditions of aggression. Teachers are promised phased increases: +30% from January 1, 2026, and another +20% from September 1. This is supposed to compensate for inflation and retain staff, as there is currently a 20% shortage of teachers in schools.
