Ukraine strengthens the fight against illegal weapons: what will change by 2030

According to МВС: Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Oleksii Serhiiev participated in the Third National Conference on Preventing and Combating the Illegal Trafficking of Weapons, Ammunition, and Explosive Substances.

During the event, he emphasized that the illegal trafficking of weapons poses a serious threat to the security of Ukrainian citizens and called for comprehensive measures to counter it.

“We must act comprehensively, starting from border protection, strengthening the border service, and providing technical support to checkpoints to avoid smuggling and illegal movement of weapons to the EU”

Oleksii Serhiiev also highlighted the importance of enhancing the capabilities of law enforcement agencies to detect arms trafficking channels and organized groups.

International cooperation and Ukraine's achievements

The conference also noted the importance of international cooperation, particularly with Europol and Frontex. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is working with the OSCE and the EU Advisory Mission on developing a roadmap to combat the illegal trafficking of weapons by 2030.

The Head of the EU Advisory Mission in Ukraine, Rolf Holmboe, noted the country’s achievements in creating a Unified Register of Weapons, a Coordinating Center for Combating Illegal Trafficking of Weapons and its Contact Point, as well as the implementation of legislative regulation of firearm declaration.

The conference was attended by representatives of agencies dealing with security issues, indicating the importance of discussing this topic among specialists.
