Security guarantees drive Zelenskyy’s attendance at NB8 summit in Tallinn
Ukrainian President joins Nordic-Baltic Eight summit
According to Главком: Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, is taking part in the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) summit being held in Tallinn. Separate talks with Estonian leadership are scheduled on the sidelines of the event, as Estonia currently holds the rotating chair of the NB8 format. Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal will lead the discussions. The summit is expected to produce a joint statement along with a dedicated declaration on security and defense cooperation.
Support from NB8 nations for Ukraine has been substantial, with total assistance surpassing €42 billion.
“I am pleased that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be joining us. Supporting Ukraine is one of the top priorities of Estonia’s NB8 chairmanship. We will discuss ways to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities, increase pressure on Russia, and make Europe safer as a whole,” said Kristen Michal.
This gathering highlights the ongoing diplomatic efforts by Kyiv to secure firm commitments from its allies amid the war with Russia.

Zelenskyy has already held bilateral meetings with the prime ministers of Finland, Latvia, and Sweden, and talks with Estonian President Alar Karis are also on the agenda. The summit will place strong emphasis on regional competitiveness, security, and closer defense collaboration.
Kristen Michal further noted:
“The Nordic-Baltic Eight countries form one of the most integrated regions in Europe. We are united by shared values, close security cooperation, and a drive to lead in both innovation and defense technology. In Tallinn we will discuss how to take the next step to make our region even more competitive, secure, and influential.”
Additionally, a meeting is planned between Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska and Estonia’s First Lady. Earlier, President Zelenskyy met with King Charles III at Windsor Palace, underscoring Ukraine’s active foreign policy in securing international backing.
