Presidential Remarks on the Drone Assault

According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has addressed a large-scale drone operation targeting Moscow, the Moscow region, and occupied Crimea. He stated that Ukraine’s defense forces, in coordination with the Security Service of Ukraine and intelligence agencies, struck objectives located over 500 kilometers away. Zelenskyy confirmed that the attacks hit facilities in temporarily occupied areas, particularly in Crimea.

Zelenskyy emphasized the operation’s scale, noting that

“Today, on a very large scale, Ukraine’s defense forces, our Security Service, and our intelligence worked against the Moscow region.”

He highlighted that

“the distance to the targets this time was more than 500 kilometers,”

which is significant because the Moscow region is heavily saturated with Russian air defense systems. He remarked that ‘Ukraine’s long-range capabilities are already overcoming this challenge.’

Targeted Assets and Attack Consequences

The attack, which took place recently, involved striking strategic assets within Russian territory and occupied Crimea. Specifically, it hit:

  • a military-industrial complex facility in the Moscow region;
  • three oil logistics sites in the same area;
  • an air defense system and airfield infrastructure in Crimea.

Zelenskyy confirmed the successful execution of another deep special operation behind enemy lines, stating that

“this long-range capability of ours is something that significantly changes the situation.”

He added that

“many partners are now signaling that they see what is happening.”

According to Russian Senator Dmitry Rogozin, a record 556 unmanned aerial vehicles were allegedly shot down over Russian regions.

This operation by Ukrainian forces underscores their ability to carry out long-range strikes, potentially altering perceptions of the war both within Ukraine and internationally. The increased range of these attacks also opens up new possibilities for strategic operations, which could influence Russian military tactics. Observers note that such actions may boost the confidence of Ukrainian troops in their capacity to strike deep into enemy territory, while simultaneously compelling the international community to pay closer attention to the conflict.

In light of these recent developments, it is crucial to understand the broader implications of Ukraine's military strategy. Following a significant Russian strike involving over 1,500 drones and 56 missiles, President Zelenskyy convened a meeting with top military officials to reassess defense tactics and response measures.
