Zelensky in Washington did not receive Tomahawk: what Trump said
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Washington on October 17 with one goal - to obtain support in the form of Tomahawk missiles. However, the meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump did not bring the expected results - the American leader did not announce the provision of weapons. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing The New York Times.
Zelensky appealed to Trump several times with a request to transfer Tomahawk to Ukraine. Initially, the American president seemed ready to agree, but after a conversation with Vladimir Putin, the decision changed.
Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Merezhko stated that Russia traditionally uses such negotiations to undermine Ukraine's positions. The current situation obliges Kyiv to wait for the results of the meeting between Trump and Putin before making further steps.
Analysts believe that even without the actual supply of Tomahawk missiles, they will play a role as a deterrent for the Russian Federation. Senior Director of Rasmussen Global Harry Nedelku emphasized that Putin's agreement to a new meeting with Trump could give Ukraine a pause to restore energy facilities damaged as a result of Russian strikes.
The meeting between the President of Ukraine and the President of the United States is in the spotlight of the international community. The hope for support in the form of Tomahawk missiles remains, but the political situation is becoming increasingly tense in anticipation of the results of the meeting between Trump and Putin. Analysts continue to consider the possible consequences of the events for Ukraine in the international context.
