Urgent EU Action Needed: Zelenskyy Calls for Adoption of 21st Sanctions Package
Zelenskyy Urges EU to Fast-Track New Sanctions
According to МВС: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on the European Union to immediately approve its 21st sanctions package. The plea comes in the wake of a fresh wave of large-scale Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities overnight. During the assault, Russian forces launched 135 drones and 10 missiles of various types, most of which were ballistic. The strikes caused numerous injuries and significant damage to infrastructure across multiple regions of Ukraine.
Impact of the Attacks
In the Kharkiv region, seven people were wounded, including a child. Residential buildings, gas stations, and railway infrastructure were also damaged. In Chernihiv, three people were injured, with a residential building and power grid facilities hit, leaving thousands of households without electricity. In Zaporizhzhia, an apartment building was destroyed.
The capital, Kyiv, was not spared either, as Russian forces targeted it with ballistic missiles. Sixteen sites were damaged, including a school and a business. Strikes also hit critical infrastructure in the Dnipro, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, and Odesa regions.
Pressure on Russia must increase. There is no time to waste-this week, the 21st EU sanctions package should be adopted.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The president emphasized that all components Russia uses to wage war-such as chips, microchips, and dual-use goods-must be halted.
We have enough collective capability, and together we can build truly reliable protection for Ukraine and all of Europe.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Damaged sites from the attacks include:
- residential buildings

- railway infrastructure
- power grid facilities

- critical infrastructure
The affected regions include Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Dnipro, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, and Odesa.
Zelenskyy's call for the EU sanctions package underscores the critical need for continued international support as Russia's aggression intensifies. New sanctions could further strain Russia's economy and limit its military capabilities. With the latest attacks causing widespread destruction, the urgency for action is greater than ever as Ukraine continues to defend its sovereignty and protect its citizens.
In light of the recent attacks, the scale of which has been unprecedented, understanding the extent of the damage across multiple regions is crucial.
