Zheleznyak named the amount needed for military payments
By the end of the year, 265 billion UAH may be lacking for military salaries, and the budget draft for 2027 does not foresee an increase in basic payments. This was reported by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak in a video on his YouTube channel. Earlier, Inkorr explained what payments military personnel receive under current regulations.
Why is there a shortage of funds for military payments?
According to Zheleznyak, in September the government already used 33.6 billion UAH from the reserve fund to make payments to servicemen. He referenced an estimate from the Accounting Chamber: by the end of the year, 265 billion UAH more is needed for military salaries than is allocated in the budget.
The MP also mentioned reports of delays in some payments. According to him, most military personnel who complained eventually received their money, but with delays. Earlier, Inkorr discussed why military payments were delayed.
The Prime Minister, answering a journalist's question about payments by the end of the year, assured: «I guarantee everything will be stable in full. There's no need to worry about that».
At the same time, Zheleznyak cited the words of economist Gleb Vishlinsky, who pointed out that at the end of August, the Ministry of Finance had 470 billion UAH on its accounts.
«It should be enough. There was no need to withhold military salaries and combat allowances», - said the economist.
Will military salaries increase in 2027?
According to Zheleznyak, the state budget draft for 2027 provides for financing payments at the current level, but does not include an increase in basic military salaries. He compared this to plans to increase expenditures for the salaries of judges and prosecutors.
The MP also provided examples of basic salaries for positions: about 26.2 thousand UAH for a platoon commander, 31 thousand UAH for a company commander, and 36 thousand UAH for a battalion commander. According to him, the rear payment of 30 thousand UAH currently has less purchasing power than in 2022 due to rising prices.
Zheleznyak proposes to reallocate budget expenditures and direct part of the funds towards increasing military salaries. According to his assessment, this could allow for an increase in payments by approximately 20%, while rear support could be raised to at least 36 thousand UAH. He claims that resources can be found for this without introducing new taxes, specifically by reviewing certain expenditures and attracting additional revenues.
Separately, the MP calls for military salaries to be made a protected line item in the budget so that these funds are not reduced or used for other purposes. In June, the rules regarding additional rewards for military personnel were also updated.
During the consideration of the budget for 2027, according to Zheleznyak, it should be clarified whether MPs will support the proposed changes. He emphasized that stable payments are important, but a separate issue remains the increase in their amount.
